09.12.08 — DAY 10: LAST DAY TO FESTIVAL
CLOSING TIFF PARTY
No plans tonight? Open to the public and free, the first Toronto International Film Festival Wrap Party kicks off at 8pm at Yonge Dundas Square in the heart of downtown Toronto. This free public concert, hosted by Much Music’s Matt Babel, will feature some of Canada ’s hottest new music talent. Oh, did we mention it was free, too?
RACHEL MCADAMS PERSONAL STYLE
Perky Rachel McAdams caught up with The Cadillac Insider at her The Lucky Ones premiere to dish fashion. “My sister’s my stylist so I never leave home without her,” laughed the talented star. “And I can’t fire her,” she added jokingly. McAdams informed us that she’s currently in Toronto re-shooting scenes to her upcoming Oscar-worthy film, The Time Traveler’s Wife, co-starring up-and-coming Canadian newcomer Jane McLean, and Eric Bana. Who produced it? Some guy named Brad Pitt. As for Ryan Gosling reunion rumours, she sternly issued a “no comment.”
HELL HATHAWAY NO FURY
Talk about great timing! With strong Oscar buzz, Ann Hathaway said goodbye to Toronto after promoting sleeper hit, Rachel Getting Married just as news regarding her breakup with Raffaello Follieri was exposed as a con man hit the newsstands. Hathaway told Vanity Fair she was shocked when her ex-lover was arrested, hours after they broke up. “As soon s I found out about the arrest, I had to get on a plane to Mexico and do a press tour for Get Smart. And then I spent a week in shock at a friend’s house. Hathaway broke up with Follieri — who pleaded guilty to once count of conspiracy, eight counts of wire fraud and five counts of money laundering — over the phone lamenting he was “the love of my life.” For breaking Hathaway’s heart, they should lock him up and throw away the key!
FASHION REINCARNATION
The other night, Toronto’s hottest nightclub Muzik played host for Shirley MacLaine’s Best Buddies charity gala, which is devoted to developing relationships between students and individuals with disabilities. MacLaine was in great spirits, and as irreverent and funny as ever. The Oscar winner tells The Cadillac Insider she’s eager to see her in the titular role in the upcoming Lifetime Original movie Coco Chanel. MacLaine, who knew Coco in real life, plays the iconic fashionista whose name became synonymous with the little tailored suit. “I’m not a whore to fashion, and think these young girls pander to much to the red carpet and its demands,” she says.
